Summary
Michigan is temporarily suspending all Medicaid program closures due to COVID-19, effective March 18, 2020 through April 2020 or until the state emergency ends. Medicaid coverage will only be closed if patients move out of state, request closure, or are deceased.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team should note that Medicaid patients will maintain continuous coverage during the emergency period and should continue billing normally. Verify patient eligibility as usual but expect fewer coverage terminations. Update staff on the temporary policy that Medicaid benefits will remain active for existing patients unless they move out of state, request closure, or are deceased.
