Summary
Michigan Medicaid updated NICU reimbursement methodology to align with new NUBC nursery revenue code guidance. Starting July 1, 2020, NICU alternate weight payments will apply to episodes with DRG codes 580x-640x that include at least one day with revenue code 0173 or 0174, expanding from the previous requirement of only revenue code 0174.
Action Required
By July 1, 2020: Billing team must update revenue code reporting for NICU services to include both 0173 and 0174 codes based on actual level of care provided. Ensure billing system accepts both codes for DRG range 580x-640x to receive alternate weight reimbursement. Verify hospital has Certificate of Need for NICU or previous SNNU alternate weight approval.
