Summary

Michigan is expanding the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program to allow participating pharmacies to administer all recommended vaccines to children ages 3-18 starting May 8, 2021. Pharmacies will bill Medicaid Fee-for-Service for administration fees only, as vaccines are provided at no cost through VFC.

Action Required

Action needed
Before May 8, 2021: Billing team should verify that any pharmacy partners participating in VFC are Medicaid-enrolled and submit vaccine administration claims through the MDHHS contracted Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM). Update billing processes to ensure pharmacies bill only administration fees (not vaccine costs) for children ages 3-18. Note that vaccines are exempt from copayments and dispensing fees are not paid.
