Summary
Michigan Medicaid now offers enhanced reimbursement for stand-alone COVID-19 vaccine administration at FQHCs, RHCs, and Tribal health centers through an Alternative Payment Methodology (APM) that pays cost-based rates higher than Medicare rates. Clinics must explicitly accept the APM via written agreement or default to standard PPS/AIR reimbursement rates.
Action Required
Immediately: If your practice is an FQHC, RHC, Tribal FQHC, or THC in Michigan, respond to written communication from MDHHS to accept the APM for COVID-19 vaccine administration services. Billing team must ensure stand-alone COVID-19 vaccine administration claims are processed separately from other services on the same date. Failure to accept APM will result in lower PPS/AIR reimbursement rates instead of enhanced cost-based rates.
