Summary
Effective January 1, 2022, Michigan expanded the list of providers who can be reported as attending providers on institutional claims for FQHCs, RHCs, and Tribal health centers. The updated list now includes various mental health professionals, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other mid-level providers in addition to physicians.
Action Required
By January 1, 2022: Billing teams at FQHCs, RHCs, and Tribal health centers must update their institutional claim submission processes to allow the expanded list of provider types in the attending field (FL 76). Update billing system provider type validations and staff training materials to reflect that nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical psychologists, social workers, and other qualified providers can now be listed as attending providers on institutional claims.
