Summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is adding 40+ new medications to multiple drug formularies effective April 1, 2025, including new specialty drugs for autoimmune disorders, atopic dermatitis, cancer, diabetes management (insulin pump supplies/devices), and other conditions. This is Part 2 of the quarterly pharmacy update and does not require member notification. Billing teams must ensure claims for these newly covered drugs are processed correctly without prior authorization denials for coverage reasons.

Action Required

Action needed
By March 31, 2025: Billing team must update pharmacy billing system to recognize the following newly covered drugs on BCBSTX formularies: ADALIMUMAB-ADAZ, EBGLYSS, ERYTHROMYCIN DR, FEMLYV, fluoxetine hcl, ILET insulin pump devices and supplies (multiple kits), LAZCLUZE, LIVMARLI, NEMLUVIO, NYVEPRIA, OXYCODONE HYDROCHLORIDE, ROXYBOND, SOFDRA, TWIIST insulin pump supplies/kits, VIGAFYDE, VORANIGO, NITAZOXANIDE, and AIRSUPRA. Verify these drugs are coded correctly in the system for each applicable plan tier (Balanced, Performance, Performance Annual, Performance Select, Basic, Enhanced, and Multi-Tier variants). Update prior authorization protocols to ensure these drugs are not denied for lack of formulary coverage. Note: Some drugs (AIRSUPRA, APRETUDE, DUVYZAT) became effective on 2/1/2025 and should already be processed. Train billing and prior auth staff on the new drug additions to prevent claim rejections. Failure to update the system may result in claims being denied for non-covered drugs when they are now covered.
