Summary

This new 'Medicare Cost Share' enrollment option in CHAMPS system processes claims starting January 1, 2023, but only when Medicare is primary.

Action Required

Action needed
By January 1, 2023: Michigan providers treating dual eligible patients must contact Provider Enrollment at ProviderEnrollment@michigan.gov to enroll for the new 'Medicare Cost Share' option in CHAMPS if they want to bill Medicaid for Medicare cost-sharing without full Medicaid enrollment. All provider types on claims (billing, rendering, attending, ordering, referring) must be enrolled as either Medicare cost-sharing only or full Medicaid providers. Claims will be denied if Medicare is not reported as primary payer.
