Summary

Michigan Medicaid will now cover Former Foster Youth (FFY) who aged out of foster care in any state, not just Michigan, as long as they had Medicaid coverage when they aged out. This expands eligibility for FFY up to age 26 regardless of which state they originally received foster care.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing and eligibility verification staff must update procedures to verify Medicaid eligibility for Former Foster Youth patients up to age 26 who may have aged out of foster care in any state, not just Michigan. Train front desk staff to ask FFY patients about their foster care history from any state when verifying coverage.
