Summary
Michigan Medicaid now allows Certified Nurse Practitioners, Certified Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Physician Assistants to be reported as attending providers in field FL 76 on UB-04 claim forms for Home Health Agency and Hospice services. These non-physician practitioners can also order, certify eligibility, and provide Plans of Care for these services, with the exception that initial hospice certification must still be completed by a physician.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update UB-04 claim processing to accept Certified Nurse Practitioners, Certified Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Physician Assistants in the attending provider field (FL 76) for Home Health Agency and Hospice claims. Verify that billing system allows these provider types for Michigan Medicaid HHA/Hospice claims. Update staff training to ensure proper completion of attending provider field with expanded practitioner types.
