Summary
Michigan Medicaid now covers behavioral health services provided by recent graduates of master's/doctoral programs in psychology, social work, counseling, or marriage and family therapy who haven't yet obtained their license, as long as they're supervised by a fully licensed provider and services are billed under the supervisor's NPI.
Action Required
By February 4, 2023: Billing team must update system to allow behavioral health services billed under supervising provider's NPI for unlicensed graduates. Ensure claims include supervisor's NPI and verify graduate completed coursework within past 12 months. Update credentialing process to verify supervision requirements for Michigan Medicaid, Healthy Michigan Plan, MOMS, MIChild, and CSHCS programs.
