Summary

Michigan's Children's Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) is reversing temporary COVID-19 policies effective May 12, 2023. Medical reports for CSHCS eligibility must now come from physician subspecialists (not nurse practitioners or PAs), and CSHCS will no longer cover FDA Emergency Use Authorization COVID-19 treatments unless ordered by subspecialists for qualifying diagnoses.

Action Required

Action needed
By May 12, 2023: Providers treating CSHCS patients must ensure only physician subspecialists submit medical reports for eligibility/renewal (no longer accept reports from nurse practitioners or physician assistants). For COVID-19 FDA EUA treatments, verify orders come from CSHCS-authorized physician subspecialists and relate to patient's CSHCS qualifying diagnosis before billing. Update workflow to resume processing temporary eligibility periods and income reviews for CSHCS families.
