Summary
Effective May 12, 2023, Michigan Medicaid will no longer cover non-emergency COVID-19 follow-up services for Emergency Services Only (ESO) beneficiaries, ending the expanded coverage that was in place during the federal Public Health Emergency. COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccine services will continue to be covered.
Action Required
By May 12, 2023: Billing team must stop submitting claims for non-emergency COVID-19 follow-up services for Michigan ESO Medicaid beneficiaries. Update billing system to flag ESO patients and restrict non-emergency COVID-19 follow-up billing. Continue billing COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccine services as normal. Claims for non-emergency follow-up services will be denied after the effective date.
