Summary
Michigan Medicaid is expanding the Children's Products policy to include adolescents and implementing new requirements for DME providers, including mandatory parent/legal guardian written consent before delivery and home evaluations to ensure equipment fits properly. Action Required
By July 1, 2024: DME providers must update workflows to obtain handwritten parent/legal guardian signed and dated approval for all children's/adolescent products before delivery or prior authorization submission. Implement home evaluation procedures to ensure equipment fits in intended spaces. Update documentation requirements to include beneficiary-specific explanations of medical necessity and why alternatives were ruled out. Ensure all products have minimum one-year warranty before requesting repairs/replacements.
