Summary
Starting October 1, 2024, Medicaid Health Plans (MHPs) and Integrated Care Organizations (ICOs) in Michigan will be responsible for covering non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) and non-emergency ambulance transportation for their enrollees to any Medicaid-covered services. Claims for these transportation services submitted to CHAMPS for MHP/ICO enrollees will no longer be reimbursed after this date.
Action Required
Before October 1, 2024: Billing team must stop submitting NEMT and non-emergency ambulance transportation claims to CHAMPS for patients enrolled in Medicaid Health Plans or ICOs. Instead, contact the patient's specific health plan for authorization, documentation, and billing requirements as these vary by plan. Update billing workflows to verify MHP/ICO enrollment before submitting transportation claims.
