Summary
Michigan Medicaid is removing the speech recognition score requirement from the audiological criteria for bone anchored hearing devices (BAHD) for patients with unilateral or bilateral conductive or mixed hearing loss, effective March 1, 2025. All other BAHD policy criteria and coverage standards remain unchanged.
Action Required
Before March 1, 2025: Audiology and ENT providers should review BAHD documentation requirements and update patient evaluation processes to reflect that speech recognition scores are no longer required for conductive or mixed hearing loss cases. Billing team must verify all other BAHD policy criteria are still met for Medicaid reimbursement. For MHP/ICO patients, confirm specific plan requirements as they may differ from Fee-for-Service Medicaid.
