Summary
Michigan Medicaid School Services Program (SSP) now allows Community Health Workers as reimbursable providers and requires specific modifiers (TM, TL, HA) on all claims to identify program components. Claims without required modifiers will be denied starting September 1, 2025.
Action Required
By September 1, 2025: Billing team must update CHAMPS system to include required modifiers on all SSP claims - TM modifier for IEP services, TL modifier for IFSP services, HA modifier for services outside IEP/IFSP, and TJ modifier for REED evaluations (replacing previous TL use). Update billing software to require one of these modifiers as the first modifier after CPT/HCPCS codes. Claims without proper modifiers will be denied.
