Summary
Effective April 1, 2005, SSI and SSI-related Medicaid recipients in Milwaukee County can now choose from four managed care organizations (Abri Health Plan, Independent Care, Managed Health Services, UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin) instead of traditional Medicaid fee-for-service. Providers must verify eligibility and MCO enrollment before services, and non-contracted providers have limited reimbursement options after the first 60 days of patient enrollment.
Action Required
By April 1, 2005: Front desk staff must verify patient eligibility AND MCO enrollment status before each service for Milwaukee County SSI/SSI-related Medicaid recipients. Non-contracted providers must contact the patient's MCO to authorize services during first 60 days of enrollment, and obtain referrals after 60 days to ensure reimbursement. Billing team should contact MCOs directly (phone numbers provided in attachment) to inquire about joining provider networks if treating SSI recipients.
