Summary
Wisconsin Medicaid will NOT implement the National Provider Identifier (NPI) system and providers must continue using their 8-digit Medicaid provider numbers on all claims and transactions. Claims submitted without the 8-digit Medicaid provider number will be denied.
Action Required
Immediately: All providers billing Wisconsin Medicaid must continue using their 8-digit Medicaid provider numbers on all electronic and paper claims, prior authorizations, and other transactions. Update billing software and staff training to ensure the 8-digit provider number is always included. Claims without this number will be denied.
