Summary
Effective May 23, 2008, Medicare will no longer accept or forward Wisconsin Medicaid provider numbers on automatic crossover claims to BadgerCare Plus. Providers must use their National Provider Identifier (NPI) and ensure it's registered with BadgerCare Plus to avoid claim denials.
Action Required
By May 23, 2008: Billing team must update all Medicare claims to use NPI instead of Medicaid provider numbers in the Billing Provider Secondary Identification element. Verify NPI is registered with BadgerCare Plus. Update billing software to automatically populate NPI for crossover claims. For organizations with multiple NPIs, use the primary organizational NPI. Include taxonomy code and ZIP+4 for providers with one NPI corresponding to multiple Medicaid numbers. Claims using old Medicaid provider numbers will be denied after this date.
