Summary
Wisconsin providers can now charge Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus members for copies of health records, but at 25% of standard fees for the first copy. The previous requirement to provide one free copy has been eliminated as of July 1, 2011.
Action Required
Immediately: Wisconsin billing teams must update fee schedules to charge Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus members 25% of standard rates for first copy of medical records ($0.25 per page for first 25 pages, etc.). Update front desk procedures to collect payment for record requests. Full fees apply for second copies.
