Summary
Wisconsin introduces the Striving to Quit Initiative for BadgerCare Plus members, providing enhanced tobacco cessation services through telephone counseling and face-to-face programs. Providers must screen for tobacco use, conduct urine cotinine tests, prescribe cessation medications, and refer eligible members to the Quit Line starting September 2012.
Action Required
By September 1, 2012: Providers must implement tobacco use screening for BadgerCare Plus members in eligible HMOs and counties. Order NicCheck I testing strips (item MA-500-001) for urine cotinine testing. Designate 1-2 staff members as Striving to Quit contacts. Complete referral forms and fax to Quit Line at (877) 554-6643.
