By October 1, 2014: Billing team must update all systems and processes to use ICD-10 codes instead of ICD-9 codes for ForwardHealth claims. Update billing software to accept alphanumeric ICD-10 codes (3-7 characters) replacing numeric ICD-9 codes (3-5 digits). Train staff on new code format and obtain ICD-10 code mapping tools from CMS. Contact billing service/clearinghouse to ensure ICD-10 readiness. For prescriptions spanning October 1, consider including both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes proactively. Claims submitted with ICD-9 codes after October 1, 2014 will not be accepted.
