Summary
BCBS Mississippi has updated their policy on genetic and molecular screening tests for colorectal cancer, classifying SEPT9 methylated DNA testing (ColoVantage, Epi proColon) and gene expression profiling tests (ColonSentry, BeScreened-CRC) as investigational and non-covered. A new CPT code 0558U was added to the investigational codes list effective July 1, 2025.
Action Required
By July 1, 2025: Billing team must update system to flag CPT codes 0163U and 0558U as investigational/non-covered for BCBS Mississippi plans. Stop billing these codes for colorectal cancer genetic screening tests including ColoVantage, Epi proColon, ColonSentry, and BeScreened-CRC. Update encounter forms to alert providers that these tests are not covered. Claims submitted for these codes will be denied as investigational.
