Summary
Oregon Medicaid CAWEM program now covers emergency dialysis services for life-sustaining treatment of acute renal failure or end-stage renal disease in hospital settings. Hospitals can bill for these previously excluded services using emergency indicators and covered diagnosis codes.
Action Required
Starting July 1, 2021: Hospital billing teams must update systems to allow billing for emergency dialysis services provided to CAWEM members with acute renal failure or ESRD. Use hospital billing with correct emergency indicators and covered diagnosis codes from the Oregon Medicaid CAWEM Emergency Codes list.
