Summary
Starting April 1, 2019, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield requires itemized bills for BlueCard (out-of-area) member inpatient claims of $250,000 or more. The itemized bill must be faxed to 301-470-4673 and include member ID, date of service, and patient account number.
Action Required
By April 1, 2019: Billing team must implement process to identify BlueCard inpatient claims of $250,000 or more. Create workflow to generate and fax itemized bills (including member ID, date of service, and patient account number) to 301-470-4673 either before or after electronic claim submission. Update billing system alerts for high-dollar BlueCard claims. This does not apply to DRG or Federal Employee Health Benefit Plan claims.
