Summary
CareFirst is upgrading its Prior Authorization notification system effective January 1, 2021, starting with Medicare Advantage members. Providers will see a new PA notification interface in the Provider Portal with updated dashboards and must use the new system for all inpatient, outpatient, and genetic testing authorizations for MA members.
Action Required
Before January 1, 2021: Billing and authorization staff must learn the new CareFirst Prior Authorization system interface. Attend one of the provided webinars in December 2020 or access on-demand training at carefirst.com/cpet > Learning Library. After January 1st, use the new PA notification system accessed through Provider Portal > Prior Auth/Notifications tab > Medical (Medicare Advantage) section for all MA member authorization requests. Failure to use the new system may delay or prevent authorization approvals.
