Summary
MedStar Select plan administration is transferring from MedStar to CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield effective January 1, 2022. All claims for services on or after January 1, 2022 must be submitted to CareFirst instead of MedStar, and all new authorizations must go through CareFirst's portal.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update submission processes for MedStar Select members. Submit all claims for dates of service January 1, 2022 and later to CareFirst using standard CareFirst procedures. Continue submitting claims for services through December 31, 2021 to MedStar (Payer ID 251MS). Update authorization workflows to use CareFirst's portal at provider.carefirst.com for all new authorizations starting January 1, 2022. Update appeals processes to use new CareFirst addresses for appeals after January 1, 2022. Access eligibility and benefits through CareFirst Direct starting January 1, 2022.
