Summary
Effective February 1, 2026, UnitedHealthcare will require all post-service appeals to be submitted electronically through either the Provider Portal or API. Paper submissions for post-service appeals will no longer be accepted for network providers serving Commercial and Medicare Advantage members.
Action Required
Before February 1, 2026: Billing team must transition all post-service appeal submissions to electronic methods. Set up access to UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal with One Healthcare ID registration if not already done. Train staff on using Claims & Payments > Look up a Claim > Act on Claim workflow in the portal. For high-volume practices, consider implementing API integration for automated appeals. Notify revenue cycle management vendors of this requirement. Paper appeals will no longer be accepted after this date.
