Effective October 1, 2024, CareFirst will require prior authorization for HCPCS code E2298 (complex rehabilitative power wheelchair accessory, power seat elevation system) for all commercial lines of business except Federal Employee Program. This is a new prior authorization requirement that will affect billing for power wheelchair accessories.
Action Required
By October 1, 2024: Billing team must update system to require prior authorization for HCPCS code E2298 before submitting claims to CareFirst commercial plans. Providers must obtain prior authorization through CareFirst's Pre-Cert/Pre-Auth system before ordering complex rehabilitative power wheelchair accessory with power seat elevation systems. Claims submitted without prior authorization will be denied.
