Summary
CareFirst is directing providers to refer to Maryland Department of Health (MDH) policies for all Behavioral Health Primary and Specialty services. Any behavioral health claims incorrectly submitted to CareFirst will be retracted in compliance with MDH policy and procedures.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must stop submitting behavioral health claims to CareFirst and redirect all Behavioral Health Primary and Specialty service claims to MDH according to their policies and procedures. Review MDH behavioral health billing guidelines and update billing system routing rules. Claims submitted to CareFirst will be retracted.
