CareFirst has resolved a backlog of faxed prior authorization requests from before April 19, 2026, and will be sending decision letters by mail outside of their normal system. Future authorization decisions will return to appearing in the prior authorization system as usual.

Immediately: Monitor mail for CareFirst prior authorization decision letters over the next few weeks for requests submitted by fax before April 19, 2026. These decisions will arrive by mail rather than through the normal prior authorization system. File these letters appropriately and update patient records with authorization status and approved codes as needed.
