Summary
Providers who administer vaccines must now register with and report all immunization data (including patient race/ethnicity) to California Immunization Registry (CAIR) or RIDE/Healthy Futures. This requirement has been effective since January 1, 2023, and non-compliance may result in loss of Vaccines for Children program eligibility.
Action Required
Immediately: Providers administering vaccines must enroll in CAIR (or RIDE/Healthy Futures for Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus counties) if not already registered. Begin reporting all vaccine doses with patient race/ethnicity data on same day administered. Upload historical vaccination records through EHR data exchange or manual entry. Billing team should verify provider enrollment status and coordinate with clinical staff to ensure compliance, as VFC program participation may be suspended for non-compliance.
