Summary

Providers who administer vaccines in California must enter immunization information including patient race and ethnicity into the California Immunization Registry (CAIR), effective January 1, 2023. Practices must enroll in CAIR, enter vaccine doses on the same day administered, and inform patients about the registry before adding their information.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately for California practices: 1) Enroll in CAIR if not already participating by visiting the CAIR website or calling 800-578-7889. 2) Set up at least one staff person with Data Exchange Quality Assurance (DX QA) user role for monitoring submissions. 3) Enter all vaccine doses on the same day administered including patient race and ethnicity data. 4) Provide patients with the Immunization Registry Notice disclosure form before entering their information. 5) Submit historical vaccination data through EHR vendor or manually using CAIR2 Guide. VFC program providers risk losing ability to order vaccines for continued non-compliance.
