Summary
Effective July 1, 2023, healthcare providers must redirect claims for juvenile justice patients from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to the local county where the patient is located. Claims for services rendered before June 30, 2023 should still be billed to CDCR, while services on or after July 1, 2023 go to local jurisdictions.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update procedures to direct all claims for juvenile justice patients to the appropriate local county jurisdiction instead of CDCR for services rendered on or after July 1, 2023. Continue billing CDCR for any services rendered on or before June 30, 2023. Update billing system and train staff on new jurisdictional billing requirements for DJJ youth patients.
