Healthcare providers must complete mandatory online training to use the new CPE Newborn Gateway Portal for reporting births to Medi-Cal within 72 hours of birth or 24 hours of discharge. This system replaces the sunsetting Child Health and Disability Program (CHDP) as of July 1, 2024.

Immediately: All qualified presumptive eligibility providers (hospitals, birthing centers, and other birthing facilities) must complete required online training at the Overview of Children's Presumptive Eligibility (CPE) and Newborn Gateway Presumptive Eligibility (NGPE) webinar before participating. After training completion, providers must use the CPE Newborn Gateway Portal to report all births of babies born to Medi-Cal or Medi-Cal Access Program members within 72 hours after birth or 24 hours after discharge, whichever is sooner.
