Summary
CalViva Health now requires physicians to offer tuberculosis (TB) risk assessments and screening tests for Medi-Cal members ages 18 and older in primary care settings when risk factors are identified. If screening is positive, providers must offer follow-up care or referral to comply with Assembly Bill 2132.
Action Required
Immediately: Primary care providers must begin offering TB risk assessments for all Medi-Cal members ages 18 and older when risk factors are identified. Update encounter forms and EMR templates to include TB screening prompts. Train staff on the five exemption criteria (life-threatening emergency, previous assessment without new risk factors, documented previous positive test, lack of consent capacity, or emergency department treatment). For positive screening results, ensure follow-up care is offered or referral is provided. Contact CalViva Health at 888-893-1569 with questions.
