Summary
Starting January 1, 2025, California Assembly Bill 2129 allows providers to separately bill Medi-Cal for IUDs, contraceptive implants, and related services provided immediately after childbirth in hospitals or licensed birth centers. These contraceptive services can no longer be considered part of general obstetric procedure payments.
Action Required
By January 1, 2025: Billing team must update system to allow separate billing for immediate postpartum contraception services (IUDs, implants) under Medi-Cal coverage instead of bundling with obstetric procedures.
