Summary
New California law AB 2132 requires primary care providers to offer tuberculosis screening to adult patients with identified risk factors, effective January 1, 2025. Providers must use California TB risk assessment tools and offer follow-up care or referrals for positive results.
Action Required
Immediately: Primary care providers must implement TB risk assessment screening for all adult Medi-Cal patients during routine visits. Use California TB risk assessment tool to identify at-risk patients. For positive risk factors, offer IGRA testing (T-SPOT.TB or QuantiFERON-Gold Plus). Rule out active TB with symptom screen and chest X-ray before LTBI treatment. For positive tests, providers must offer follow-up care or refer patients for latent TB treatment. Update EMR templates to include TB risk assessment workflow.
