Connecticut Medicaid now allows certified pharmacists to prescribe and dispense naloxone (Narcan) directly to HUSKY and CADAP members. When billing, pharmacists can use their own NPI as the prescribing provider, and only specific naloxone products are covered with defined NDC codes.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Billing team must update pharmacy billing system to accept pharmacist NPIs as prescribing providers for naloxone claims. Only bill for covered products: Narcan 4mg Nasal Spray (NDC 69547-0353-02) and covered naloxone syringes. Do not submit claims for nasal atomization devices, auxiliary products, or Evzio when prescribed by pharmacists as these will be denied.
