Summary
Connecticut Medicaid is extending the timeframe for requesting prior authorization for retroactive eligibility from the previous timeframe to 90 days after eligibility is granted. This applies to both medical and behavioral health inpatient admissions when patients receive retroactive Medicaid eligibility.
Action Required
For Connecticut Medicaid patients with retroactive eligibility: Billing team must submit prior authorization requests within 90 days of eligibility being granted (extended from previous shorter timeframe). Verify eligibility through CT Secure Web Portal or AEVS, retain verification number, and submit authorization request with clinical documentation to CHNCT (1-800-440-5071) for medical services or Beacon Health Options (1-877-552-8247) for behavioral health services. Appeals must still be filed within 7 days of denial.
