Summary

Connecticut Medicaid now covers inpatient hospital care for inmates who lose their 'inmate status' when treated in general hospitals not under state correction system control. Hospitals must follow new procedures to verify eligibility and apply for Medicaid coverage on behalf of eligible inmates.

Action Required

Action needed
Immediately: Hospital billing teams in Connecticut must implement new inmate eligibility verification procedures. Check current eligibility using AEVS system first. For eligible inmates, email PRE.DSS@ct.gov with client name, admission/discharge dates, billing address, and Medicaid Provider ID. For non-eligible inmates, assist with AH2 application completion and eFax to PRE.DSS@ct.gov or fax to 860-424-4939. Submit applications by end of fourth month following admission to ensure coverage. Request retroactive authorization from CHNCT once eligibility is granted.
