Summary
Connecticut Medicaid now allows shared/split visits between physicians and non-physician practitioners (PAs, APRNs, CNMs) to be billed under the physician's provider number for 100% reimbursement, provided specific documentation requirements are met including face-to-face physician encounter and clear justification for physician involvement.
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must update workflows for shared visits in Connecticut Medicaid cases. Ensure documentation includes: clear reason for physician involvement beyond NPP work, physician documentation of their specific services, physician attestation or separate plan of care notes, signatures from both providers, and service date. Train providers that physician must have face-to-face encounter - cannot just review and sign NPP notes. Claims without proper documentation will be paid at lower NPP rates.
