Summary
Connecticut Medicaid updated their Preferred Drug List (PDL) effective July 1, 2017, with changes to preferred medications and clarified billing requirements for brand name drugs on the PDL. Pharmacists can dispense 14-day temporary supplies for non-preferred drugs, and brand name preferred drugs can be billed with DAW codes 5 or 9 without requiring 'Brand Medically Necessary' documentation.
Action Required
By July 1, 2017: Pharmacy staff must review the updated Connecticut Medicaid PDL on www.ctdssmap.com and update dispensing protocols to use DAW codes 5 or 9 (instead of DAW 1) when dispensing preferred brand name medications. Ensure staff can process 14-day temporary supplies using all 9's in Prior Authorization Number field and numeric '1' in Prior Authorization Type field for non-preferred medications. Provide DSS-authorized flier to patients receiving 14-day supplies.
