Summary
Connecticut Medicaid (HUSKY Health) now requires face-to-face encounters with enrolled physicians or approved NPPs for all initial home health services and certain DME orders. The face-to-face visit must occur within specific timeframes and proper documentation must be maintained by ordering providers and supplied to home health agencies/DME providers.
Action Required
Immediately for Connecticut HUSKY Health members: Providers must conduct and document face-to-face encounters before ordering initial home health services (within 90 days before or 30 days after service start) and certain DME items (within 6 months before prescription date). Update EMR templates to include face-to-face encounter documentation requirements. Billing team must verify face-to-face documentation exists before submitting claims. Provide face-to-face encounter documentation to home health agencies and DME suppliers as required. Claims without proper face-to-face documentation will be denied.
