Summary
Connecticut Medicaid updated their Preferred Drug List (PDL) effective January 1, 2018, with new preferred and non-preferred medications. Non-preferred drugs now require prior authorization, but pharmacies can dispense a one-time 14-day supply while PA is being obtained.
Action Required
Immediately: Update billing team training on Connecticut Medicaid pharmacy claims. When prescribing for HUSKY A, C, D, TB, and Family Planning clients, verify medications are on the preferred drug list at www.ctdssmap.com. For non-preferred drugs, obtain prior authorization before dispensing or advise patients they may receive only a 14-day temporary supply. Update encounter forms to remind providers to check PDL status before prescribing.
