Summary
Connecticut Medicaid (HUSKY Health) is deleting CPT codes 96040, 97607, and 97608 from their physician fee schedule effective February 1, 2018. CPT 96040 (genetic counseling) can only be billed by physicians/PAs/CNMs/APRNs as part of E/M visits, and CPT 97607/97608 for disposable wound vacuum therapy are no longer covered.
Action Required
By February 1, 2018: Billing team must remove CPT codes 96040, 97607, and 97608 from Connecticut Medicaid billing for all Connecticut providers. Update billing system to prevent submission of these codes for HUSKY Health patients. For genetic counseling (96040), only bill if performed by physician/PA/CNM/APRN as part of E/M visit. For wound vacuum therapy, only use CPT 97605/97606 for durable equipment, not disposable systems.
