Summary
Effective March 1, 2018, Connecticut Medicaid will reimburse AS modifier claims (for physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or clinical nurse specialist services as assistant at surgery) at 20% of the listed surgical fee. These claims will process the same as assistant surgeon modifiers 80, 81, and 82.
Action Required
Billing team must ensure AS modifier claims for assistant at surgery services by PAs, NPs, or CNSs are processed at 20% reimbursement rate, same as modifiers 80, 81, and 82. Update billing system settings to reflect this reimbursement structure for Connecticut Medicaid claims with AS modifier effective March 1, 2018.
