Summary
Connecticut Medicaid is replacing four e-consult CPT codes (99446-99449) with two new codes (99451 at $34.28 and 99452 at $17.34) effective January 1, 2019. The program is also expanding e-consult eligibility to include psychiatric APRNs and psychiatrists for medication management consultations.
Action Required
By January 1, 2019: Billing team must update system to discontinue CPT codes 99446, 99447, 99448, and 99449 for Connecticut Medicaid e-consults. Add new codes 99451 ($34.28) and 99452 ($17.34) with proper time and frequency restrictions. Update encounter forms to reflect 99452 cannot be billed more than once per 14-day period and e-consult codes cannot be billed within 14 days of face-to-face visits with same specialist. Claims using old codes will be denied after December 31, 2018.
