Summary
Connecticut Medicaid is discontinuing modifier GD effective January 1, 2020, which was previously used to indicate when units of service exceeded medically unlikely edit values but represented reasonable and necessary services. The state will continue MUE review processes but will issue future guidance on the updated process.

Immediately: Billing team must stop using modifier GD for Connecticut Medicaid claims with dates of service January 1, 2020 and forward. Update billing software to remove GD modifier from Connecticut Medicaid claim submissions. Continue to use modifier GD only for Connecticut Medicaid claims with dates of service prior to January 1, 2020. Monitor for future guidance on updated MUE review process.
