Summary
Connecticut Medicaid is eliminating Place of Service code 02 for telemedicine claims effective January 1, 2021. Instead, providers must use the place of service where the patient would have been seen in-person, plus modifier GT (if patient at healthcare facility) or 95 (if patient at home).
Action Required
Immediately: Billing team must stop using Place of Service code 02 for all Connecticut Medicaid telemedicine claims. Update billing system to automatically assign the appropriate in-person POS code plus modifier GT (patient at healthcare facility) or 95 (patient at home). Train staff on new telemedicine billing requirements. Claims billed incorrectly may be subject to post-payment review and adjustments.
